INTRODUCTION

The Department of Physics was established in 2016, which is the part of Energy Centre of the university and is presently housed in a three-story building in the newly established main campus.

We offer BS programs in two subjects; Physics and Applied Physics (Nanotechnology). The Department has good academic oriented facilities for students and teachers such as multi-media arrangement of lectures, seminars, under-graduate laboratories, computer laboratory, materials’ synthesis laboratory and a characterization laboratory. Purchase of high tech research equipments including BET surface area analyzer, Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA), UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, Tube Furnace, Muffle Furnace, Vacuum Oven etc. is in pipeline to conduct high quality research in physics and related areas. Co-curricular activities such as study tours, participation in seminars, workshops and conferences are highly encouraged. Research collaboration with other universities on national and international level has been established which includes National Centre for Physics, Abbottabad University of Science and Technology, Kohat University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Technology etc. Several research projects funded by HEC, HED and PSF are in progress to build up the research capacity of the department. The seminar library is well furnished and has more than 2000 books in Physics and related fields. The Department has computer facilities and is linked with the national/ international community through PERN.

The Department has recently offered MPhil and PhD programs Physics and started the first session in Spring 2023. The department has excellent research laboratory for scholars where they can perform productive experimental research.

VISION

Vision of the Department is to build up the scientific, technical or professional skills of the students who are looking for careers in Physics & Nanotechnology and related areas.

Objectives

  • To deliver concepts in fundamental theory and practice of Physics through core and specialized courses
  • To impart hands on skills through well designed undergraduate and research labs
  • To encourage and foster a culture of creative problem solving in students
  • To groom students with the objective to enhance their subject grasp by conducting substantial interactive discussions and seminars.
  • To instil capabilities of conducting dependent and independent research in the students
  • To inculcate professional confidence and to improve their presentation skills.

MISSION

The department of Physics at Khushal Khan Khattak University, Karak is dedicated to research, development and education across all areas of Physics with emphasis on Material Physics and Nanotechnology. Intense focus is drawn to address the incorporation of nanotechnology into undergraduate and post graduate levels of education and into industrial applications. Quality academic and research programs have been designed with flexibility and technical standards as per HEC curriculum which provide an excellent opportunity to the graduates with enough expertise in different applied fields such as material physics, soil physics, micro-/nano-electronics, optoelectronics, semiconductors, micro-/nano-sensors, environmental physics, catalysis and energy applications so that they could compete at national and international levels in academia as well as industries.

The Department of Physics are currently offering following Postgraduate and undergraduate Programs.
